Good morning, Salem.

Tonight, Santa Claus is coming to Riverfront Park along with horses, festive holiday music and thousands of glowing lights.

The city’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting event kicks off at 5:30 p.m., and will include carriage rides, a scavenger hunt and a chance to meet Santa. The park is at 200 Water St. N.E.

50,000 LED lights will shine, including a newly added lighted teddy bear.
Starting at 5:45 p.m., there will be free cookies and cocoa donated by Roth’s IGA.

Mayor Chris Hoy will light up the main holiday tree at 6 p.m. The event ends at 8 p.m., and the lights will stay up through Dec. 31. See the city’s website for more information.
