Salem Health continues to provide abortions in certain medical situations, contrary to claims made in a community Facebook group on Tuesday.
The posts, to a Salem group with over 5,000 followers, claimed that Salem Health’s board of trustees voted to stop doing any form of pregnancy termination.
The hospital does not provide elective abortions. Here’s what Salem Health had to say in a statement emailed to Salem Reporter on Wednesday.
“A recent post on social media claiming the Salem Health Board of Trustees voted to eliminate all pregnancy terminations is untrue. Likewise, the statement that the labor and delivery unit is not allowed to provide this care is also untrue, as is the claim that the board met recently for this reason.
Salem Hospital’s policy continues to allow for termination of pregnancy when medically indicated.
Salem Health’s top priority is always patient safety, and we remain committed to ensuring our patients have access to the care they need.”
