Good morning, Salem.

Splash pads are among the proposed cuts to Salem services outlined in the 2026 city budget unveiled Wednesday.

They will still be available this summer in urban parks, including Riverfront and River Road parks, which have “more flexible and responsive water systems,” according to Courtney Knox Busch, the city’s strategic initiatives manager.

Knox Busch said such parks will have limited irrigation and shorter restroom hours, and the city plans to add some chemical restrooms.

Meantime, smaller neighborhood parks would see reduced maintenance, closure of restrooms and no irrigation starting July 1, she said.

That means five of the city’s seven existing splash pads won’t be available. The closures would impact Wes Bennett, Fairmount, Englewood, West Salem and Northgate parks.
