UPDATE: Car stolen, driver at large after Madrona & Pringle collision

A driver who ran a red light in south Salem caused a large collision and stole a witness’s car to flee the scene Tuesday morning. The driver remains at large, Salem police said.
Police received a call around 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, reporting a collision on Southeast Pringle Road and Southeast Madrona Avenue that sent one person to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, according to Salem police spokeswoman Angela Hedrick.
One driver traveling at a high rate of speed did not stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with other vehicles on the roadway.
The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene by stealing the car of a witness who had stepped out to help.
“The suspect is still outstanding,” according to Hedrick, and the collision remains an ongoing investigation as of Tuesday morning.
The intersection of Southeast Pringle Road and Southeast Madrona Avenue was reopened around 8 a.m., police said in a post on X, after initially being closed.
A total of five cars were impacted. One caught fire, prompting a response from the fire department.
