UPDATE: Center St. to reopen Friday evening after power pole crash

UPDATE: 7:35 p.m. Friday – The Salem Police Department expects to reopen Northeast Center Street east of downtown around 8 p.m. Friday, the agency said on X. The street was closed between Northeast 14th and 17th Streets.

A driver collided with a power pole midday Friday on Northeast Center Street, shutting down power in some areas east of downtown.

Center Street was closed between Northeast 14th and 17th Streets, according to the Salem Police Department.

Traffic was backed up in the area around 12:30 p.m. Friday as police, Portland General Electric crews and a city crew managed the scene. 

Power was out at the intersection of State and 17th Streets. PGE’s outage map showed no customers impacted in the area.

Drivers should expect long delays before the area is cleared and the pole is repaired, Salem police said around noon on X.

Police said residents should contact the utility for updates.

They said no one was transported for medical care after the crash.
