PHOTOS: Polar Plunge 2025 raises thousands for Special Olympics

Dozens of students, educators, police and community supporters braved icy waters at the Illahe Country Club in Salem Saturday for the annual Polar Plunge.

The Special Olympics fundraiser helps support programs for athletes and students with developmental and intellectual disabilities. It included a 5k run before the plunge, as well as a costume contest.

Special Olympics supports Unified programs, which provide opportunities for students with and without disabilities to play sports and take classes together at Salem schools.

The event raised more than $15,000, according to the organization’s fundraising page. Polar Plunges also took place in Portland, Bend and Eugene, with a southern Oregon event scheduled for March 8.

Top teams were “KickinCancer in the ICE eWater,” with over $4,500, and the Salem Police Department, with $3,350.
