A fire Tuesday morning left a central Salem home unlivable for six residents, according to the Salem Fire Department.
City fire officials said at least one person was home when the building caught fire but could not confirm how many in total.
Eleven fire units responded to the fire in the 900 block of Northeast Garnet Street, including seven engines and one ladder, according to Brian Carrara, Salem Fire’s deputy administrative chief. The home is across the street from North Salem High School.
Fire crews responded to find the second floor in flames.
Using a fire hydrant nearby, the first crew quickly attacked the fire and saved the entire first floor, he said.
The building is not a total loss, but the owners cannot live there until it has been repaired, according to Carrara.
