Police continuing to investigate “suspicious death” of woman found along south Salem street

Police say they are investigating the suspicious death of a 28-year-old woman found dead nine days ago on a south Salem street.
Carla F. Vasquez of Salem was found dead on Thursday, May 23, just before 2 a.m. in the 1000 block of Southeast Rural Avenue.
“The circumstances surrounding her death have still not been determined, and detectives are handling the case as a suspicious death investigation,” according to Salem Police Department spokeswoman Angela Hedrick.
Police at the time responded to a report of a woman lying in the roadway. The area is near South Salem High School.
Responding paramedics determined that Vasquez was dead.
Hedrick said that Salem police would update the public after determining the facts involving Vasquez’s death.
The agency did not announce that it had found Vasquez’s body at the time and provided the information on Saturday only after Salem Reporter asked about her death.
