A driver struck and fatally injured a 70-year-old woman crossing a north Salem street on her motorized scooter Wednesday.
Police said Lois Marie Randall died from her injuries at Salem Hospital.
Emergency crews were called to Northeast River Street and Northeast Liberty Street Wednesday around 9:45 a.m., the Salem Police Department said in a release.
Police determined Randal was attempting to cross Northeast Liberty Street when she was hit by a northbound vehicle. Witnesses reported Randall went into the street close to oncoming traffic leading up to the deadly crash.
The driver of the vehicle, Jami Lee Duhrkoop, 36, is cooperating with police as they continue to investigate the crash.
The northbound lane of Northeast Liberty Street was closed for about three hours as police investigated.
The Wednesday morning crash is the thirteenth traffic death to happen in Salem since the start of the year, police said.
