No arrests have been made in the shooting death of a woman deputies found in a car early Thursday morning outside an east Salem apartment, according to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after midnight, a 911 caller reported hearing gunshots on Northeast Embassy Way near Northeast Satter Drive in unincorporated east Salem. Deputies arrived at the Embassy Court Apartments to find the body of a woman in her late teens to early 20s with gunshot wounds in a vehicle, the sheriff’s office said in the news release.

Detectives are “treating this as a homicide investigation until an official cause and manner of death are determined,” the release said. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

The sheriff’s office said it won’t identify the victim until it notifies her next of kin.

“At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with this investigation. Based upon preliminary information, investigators to not believe there is any outstanding danger to residents in the area,” according to the release.
